Next week, many schools begin mock EOG testing. While the word “mock” might make it sound small… it probably doesn’t feel small to your child. You may already notice it:

  • The extra quiet at bedtime

  • The “What if I don’t pass?” questions

  • The stomachaches that show up out of nowhere

  • The sudden need for reassurance

If that’s happening in your house — take a breath. This is normal.

What Your Child Needs

Yes, sleep matters.
Yes, breakfast matters.
Yes, reviewing skills can help.

But what matters most? Emotional safety.

Your child needs to know and hear you say things like:

  • “I’m proud of you no matter what.”

  • “Doing your best is enough.”

  • “One test does not define who you are.”

When children feel secure at home, their nervous system settles. When their body feels calmer, their brain works better.

A Simple Night-Before Routine

The evening before testing:

  1. Keep it calm.

  2. Limit last-minute cramming.

  3. Invite one small grounding practice:

    • 3 slow belly breaths

    • Name 5 things they’re grateful for

    • Repeat: “I am prepared. I can handle this.”

Then end with something steady and reassuring:

“I love you. I’m proud of you. Just do your best.” That sentence carries more power than any practice worksheet ever could.

Remember This

Mock EOG week is a moment. Confidence is a skill built over time.

Your child is learning more than math or reading — they are learning resilience, emotional regulation, and how to show up when something feels big. And you? You are their safe place. That matters more than any score.
